Before You Book
Keep in mind that the rules continuously change, destinations may suddenly reopen or close to American tourists without notice, so be sure to check with local authorities before booking your trip. Given that things change quickly and trips are often booked weeks, even months, in advance, it’s recommended that you book refundable flights (often available with the best airlines) and accommodation that allows you to cancel for a full refund.
If you’re looking for an extended holiday–one that is over two weeks, there are a lot of places you can travel to beyond this list. The list of countries that allow U.S. travelers right now only includes those that do not require a 14-day quarantine upon arrival, though there are a number of countries that allow American travelers with a 14-day quarantine period, so if you’re going for a while and up for bunking down, check out this article on Countries open to Americans WITH a 14-day Quarantine.
